Volunteer Descriptions
Volunteer Roles
Our swim meets rely on parent volunteers! Each family must earn 12 volunteer points per season. Roles range from 1-5 points, with higher-point roles requiring more time and/or training. All volunteers must wear white shirts and navy blue bottoms.
NVSL Officials (Training Required)
- Referee: Chief official, responsible for meet conduct and rule enforcement.
- Starter: Ensures fair starts.
- Stroke and Turn Judges: Enforce stroke rules, record disqualifications (DQs).
- Chief Timer/Assistant Chief Timer: Collect and verify time cards, signal readiness.
Meet Operations
- Announcer: Announces events and results.
- Clerk of Course: Organizes swimmers into lanes.
- Data Entry/Table Workers: Enters swimmer data during meets.
- Marshall: Ensures pool deck safety and crowd control.
- Relay Take-Off Judges (A Meets only): Ensures legal relay transitions.
- Table Workers: Determine finish order, score meet, prepare ribbons.
- Timers: Record swimmer times.
Coordination Roles (Higher Point Value)
- Swim Team Rep: Overall team management, NVSL liaison.
- Head Data Coordinator: Responsible for entering all swimmer data into HyTek, prints out the ribbon labels and produces an electronic report of the meet.
- A Meet Coordinator: Organizes A meet volunteers and logistics.
- B Meet Coordinator: Organizes B meet volunteers and logistics.
- Officials Coordinator: Schedules trained officials.
- Volunteer Coordinator: Organizes all volunteer assignments.
Volunteer Tips
- Shadowing at a B meet is recommended before volunteering at an A meet.
- NVSL training is required for official positions.
- Sign up for volunteer roles online during meet registration.
