Tigers Swim Team
The mission of the AFC swim team is twofold. At the individual level, the goal is for every swimmer to be able to swim all four competitive strokes legally. This allows them to achieve a skill which can lead to a lifetime of enjoyment and physical fitness. At the team level, the goal is for the coaches to create a strong and cohesive team that leads to a winning season. Combined, these goals ensure that swimmers of all ability levels are able to have a positive swim team experience, learn good sportsmanship, and cherished summer memories.
The Arlington Forest Tigers Swim Team has been a member of the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) since 1956. The NVSL is the largest summer swim league in the United States with more than 15,000 swimmers on 102 teams competing in 17 divisions.
With about 220 swimmers ranging in age from 5 to 18 years old, the team has remained very competitive over the years due to the great AFC community, support of the swimmers' families, and high quality coaches. Since 1956, the Tigers have won 11 Division Championships and the Tigers have also won 3 Relay Carnival Championships in the past few years. Although we have had our share of fast swimmers and winning seasons, the team's success comes from its interest in teaching children of every ability to love the sport of swimming. Whether you are new to the sport, new to the team, or returning for another fun season, we welcome you and hope you enjoy the team.
Our team could not exist without parent volunteers. Each volunteer opportunity is valued on a point scale between (1 - 5 pts) and EACH FAMILY must earn at least 12 (Twelve) volunteer points this season (Families that ONLY have Mini Tigers will have to volunteer at swim meets when Mini Tigers are swimming. Please see the Mini Tiger section for more information). Coordination opportunities and NVSL trained positions are worth more points than others due to the time required of these positions.
All new swimmers must be evaluated before joining the team and participating in practices. Please bring new swimmers to one of the pre-season practices starting Tuesday, May 29, 2018, for an evaluation by one of our coaches.
